Together, they suggest that Marvel is preparing to move beyond the Multiverse Saga with a combination of mutants, supernatural characters and one of the MCU’s most important existing franchises.

For Marvel Studios, the X-Men represent more than another superhero team.
They are effectively an entire universe inside the Marvel Universe.
Characters such as Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey, Rogue, Magneto, Professor X and dozens of others can support solo projects, sequels, spin-offs and crossovers for years.
That gives Marvel something it has increasingly needed: a new narrative engine.

And Black Panther already exists in a world with its own visual identity, political structure and mythology.

The X-Men alone could sustain a decade of stories.

Black Panther gives Marvel an established franchise capable of exploring both superhero mythology and political drama.
The question is therefore not whether Marvel has enough characters.
It is whether Marvel Studios can resist making all of them feel like they belong in the same movie.
Because the best version of the MCU’s future may not be one enormous interconnected universe constantly reminding us that everything is connected.
It may be a collection of very different worlds that occasionally collide.
