It’s official: Harry Potter is back, and this time it’s all in ultra-HD, episodic glory.
📍 Cameras have started rolling at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK on the HBO television reboot of JK Rowling’s world-famous wizarding saga — and we’ve just had our first look at the new Harry.
The young actor Dominic McLaughlin dons the Gryffindor robes and iconic round glasses in a promotional photo released by HBO, flanked by Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger — the new Golden Trio, handpicked from an open casting search that saw tens of thousands of British kids audition.
🪄 Meet the New Wizards (and Muggles)
The cast is stacking up fast, and honestly, it’s fire:
🧙♂️ Harry Potter – Dominic McLaughlin
🍟 Ron Weasley – Alastair Stout
📚 Hermione Granger – Arabella Stanton
🌿 Neville Longbottom – Rory Wilmot
🧹 Madam Hooch – Louise Brealey
🧪 Snape – Paapa Essiedu
🕯️ Dumbledore – John Lithgow (!)
Also: Nick Frost as Hagrid, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, Anton Lesser as Ollivander, and an all-new Dursley family with Bel Powley, Daniel Rigby, and Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy. It’s shaping up to be a who’s who of British (and not-so-British) talent.
📚 One Book, One Season
According to HBO, this is a faithful adaptation of the original seven novels — with one season per book, promising fans “the fantastic detail, much-loved characters and dramatic locations” the films couldn’t always capture.
🎬 Behind the Scenes
📽️ Directed in part by Mark Mylod (Succession)
🖋️ Written by Francesca Gardiner (His Dark Materials)
👩🏫 Executive produced by JK Rowling herself
And yes — the internet is already spiraling over casting choices, tone, canon changes, and who gets screen time. It’s beautiful chaos. We missed this energy.
🔮 When’s It Coming?
2027 is the official target — marking 30 years since the first book was published and 16 years since the final film.
A whole new generation is about to board the Hogwarts Express… and Gen Z (and millennials) are going with them.
✍️ Geek Oven Final Take
You can’t remake childhood — but you can reignite the fandom with style.
This is more than nostalgia. It’s a full reset of the Wizarding World — and we’re all watching.
