In a historic night for dance music, Thomas Bangalter — one half of the legendary duo Daft Punk — made his long-awaited return to the decks with a surprise back-to-back performance with Fred again.. on October 25 at the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
The unexpected set took place around 2:30AM during Because Beaubourg, the 20th anniversary celebration of Because Music, featuring a lineup curated by Busy P (Pedro Winter) and Erol Alkan.
While Fred again.. had teased a mysterious Paris appearance earlier in the day, fans were stunned when he confirmed — just after 1AM — that he’d be playing b2b with none other than Bangalter, the reclusive Daft Punk co-founder.
🔊 A once-in-a-generation setlist
The pair treated the Pompidou crowd to a euphoric mix of iconic dance tracks, including:
Donna Summer – “I Feel Love”
Mr. Oizo – “Flat Beat”
Bangalter’s own edit of Chromeo x DJ Medhi x Stanton Warriors – “Signature / Bonus Beats / Needy Girl”
At the end of the performance, Fred again.. took the mic to thank the ecstatic audience, calling it “the maddest two hours of my entire life.”
🎛️ Bangalter’s first public DJ set since 2009
This marks Bangalter’s first DJ performance in 16 years — his last being in 2009 at Busy P’s birthday in Los Angeles.
His most recent live appearance was alongside Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo at the 2017 GRAMMY Awards, performing with The Weeknd.
Fans can now watch the full Pompidou set on YouTube, capturing a rare and emotional reunion between two generations of electronic music brilliance.
