Brooklyn Mirage in Crisis: Parent Company Struggles to Find Buyer Amid Cancellations and Construction Chaos

The future of New York’s famed open-air venue Brooklyn Mirage is in jeopardy, according to a new report from BK Mag. Its parent company, Avant Gardner, is reportedly looking to sell the venue — but struggling to find a buyer.

During a recent dinner at Manhattan’s Per Se, Avant Gardner’s non-executive Chairman Gary Richards — better known in the music world as DJ Destructo — was overheard discussing the challenges of offloading the property. “Looking to get a buyer, but it’s impossible right now,” he reportedly said.

The 2025 summer season has been marred by missed construction deadlines, failed safety inspections, and the cancellation of ten full weeks of shows. An anonymous team member from Avant Gardner warned that if a sale doesn’t happen soon, the company “will definitely have to file bankruptcy.”

Richards took over in May after the dismissal of CEO Josh Wyatt, who had been leading a major redesign since late 2024. The venue has remained closed since the start of the year. Though originally set to reopen on May 1st, the Brooklyn Mirage has yet to announce a new opening date, and several July events have already been cancelled.

Stay tuned — we’ll keep reporting as this story unfolds.
