Wolfenstein Is Coming to TV: Amazon Adapts the Iconic Nazi-Slaying FPS

When talking about the origin of first-person shooters (FPS), it’s easy to jump straight to DOOM. But before that hellish classic exploded onto the scene, there was Wolfenstein 3D—the World War II shooter that paved the way for the genre and introduced us to B.J. Blazkowicz, the ultimate Nazi killer.

Now, Wolfenstein is making its way to the small screen.

Amazon MGM has officially greenlit a live-action TV series based on the legendary FPS franchise, teaming up with Bethesda and MachineGames, the studio behind the modern Wolfenstein reboots. The showrunner will be Patrick Somerville, known for Station Eleven and more recently the critically acclaimed Fallout series on Prime Video. Joining him is Jerk Gustafsson, a key figure at MachineGames and executive producer on all recent Wolfenstein titles.

Plot and Cast? Still Classified.

So far, details are scarce. No confirmed cast. No plot synopsis. But one thing has been revealed: the show’s official tagline is “Killing Nazis is a timeless tale.” If that doesn’t capture the spirit of Wolfenstein, nothing will.

Expect over-the-top action, twisted alternate history, and a heavy dose of gritty satire.

Gaming Adaptations: Hit or Miss?

Turning FPS games into successful film or TV projects has proven tricky. The DOOM movie with The Rock? A cult disaster. The Halo series? Mixed reception. The recent Borderlands film? A full-on flop.

But there’s hope. Fallout managed to break the curse, blending narrative depth with fan service in all the right ways. With Somerville at the helm again, Wolfenstein might just pull off the same magic—especially with MachineGames involved.

The Microsoft Universe Expands

With both Fallout and Wolfenstein now in the hands of Amazon (and both under the Microsoft-owned ZeniMax umbrella), it’s clear the tech giant is building a transmedia empire. Could Quake or DOOM be next?

For now, all eyes are on Wolfenstein. No release date yet, but fans of gritty alt-history and FPS carnage have something to look forward to.

Stay psyched.
